Ageing of Population and Tumours: Threat for the Future?
Fear of death accompanies humanity across its entire history. Mammoth hunters despatched their dead to the last journey in a manner suggesting their faith in life after death. The cult of the dead and the faith in life resulted in ancient Egypt in mummification of bodies and complex funeral rituals. Immortality was also sought by Mesopotamian Gilgamesh. Our civilisation, standing on Jewish-Christian foundations, gives absolute value to life, and people who have been provided with the gift of faith hope for resurrection and eternal life. We save life even for a high price, and in many cases when it has become an unworthy, undignified existence.
