Advances in tumour microenvironment research

Already in 2018, the American FDA issued a resolution that also included a call on pharmaceutical industry to study the tumour microenvironment. The reason was that similarly as the coral reef, this microenvironment represents a highly alive and diverse ecosystem. In fact, it seems that its non-cancerous, 'supporting' cells have profound effects on the growth of virtually all types of solid tumours and their metastasizing. Already in the fall of that year, the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University established the Centre of Tumour Ecology, which followed the previous research activities and started complex investigation of this topic.
